James "Jim" Bamford's Obituary
James “Jim” Bamford, age 91 of Methuen passed away on December 6, 2018 at his late residence. Jim was born in Methuen on October 20, 1927 to the late Edwin and Catherine (Battle) Bamford. He attended the Methuen schools. Jim’s hobbies were hunting and fishing, especially smelt fishing in Maine during the winter months. He was an employee of Lucent Technologies for 12 years.
Jim proudly served his country in the US Navy, enlisting in 1945 and serving until 1966 when he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He served during WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam Era and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Jim was actively engaged in the evacuation of dependents from Guantanamo Bay on October 22, 1962. Jim was associated with the Fleet Reserve Association, the VFW Arnold Greenwood Post 8349, and the American Legion Post 122. He was a Plank Owner at the US Navy Memorial in Washington DC.
Jim was the beloved husband of Joan (Mirfield) Bamford with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Beverly Beanland and her husband Thomas, Stephen Bamford and his wife Terri, David Bamford and his wife Madalyn and the late Scott Bamford. He was the loving grandfather of 6 and the cherished great grandfather of 6.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A service will begin at 4:30 PM and conclude with full military honors provided by the US Navy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the US Navy Memorial Foundation, PO Box 96579 Washington DC 20077 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl.
