Between September 1968 and June 1969, 'Miss Bernardin' was for me both formative and formidable as a teacher at Bishop School in Arlington, Massachusetts. From what I recall she was measured, disciplined and rather stern, while both gentle and kind, and not without a mild cheekiness, if I remember correctly. She was a personal favourite, and all these years later I am left feeling a pang.
I met Jackie almost 25 years ago through the early music scene in the greater Boston area. We first met through our viol teacher Sarah Mead and hit it off from the very start. She had a wicked sense of humor which I very much appreciated. Through the years we played music together with various early music groups including those in Sarasota FL. We both loved playing the viol and reading books and watching movies. Often we talked on the phone to recommend books to each other that we had just read and thought the other might enjoy and to also catch up on current political events. I am deeply sad that our time with Jackie has come to an end and will miss her. Arthur and I send our deepest sympathy to Jackie's family. Chris Mirley
