Irene M. Naylor's Obituary
Irene M. (Burdin) Naylor, 99, passed away on July 17, 2018 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehab Centre in Methuen. Irene was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Daley) Burdin. She was also the widow of the Ernest Naylor Sr. who died in 1987. She was born in Methuen, MA on December 12, 1918 and had been a resident of Methuen all her life. She was a graduate of Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen with the Class of 1936.
Irene was a payroll clerk in the main office of the Pacific Mills in Lawrence until she retired in 1945. She was one of the first poll workers at Precinct 9 in Methuen when it opened in 1957 and worked there as a clerk for 30 years with a perfect attendance record. Irene was the past president of the Howe School PTA and past treasurer of the Methuen PTA Council. She was one of the first den mothers for Cub Scout Troop #53 of the Howe School, Methuen. In 1980, she and her late husband were presented with a “Certificate of Recognition” at the Cub Scout 25th Blue and Gold Banquet.
Irene had a great love for music and was an accomplished pianist. She also liked working in her flower garden and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Irene was an avid reader and a great cook.
Irene was a long time communicant of St. Monica’s Parish, where she and her husband renewed their wedding vows on the 40th wedding anniversary. She was an active member of “Our Lady of Good Counsel” Sodality of St. Monica’s Parish, was also a member of the St. Claire League of Catholic Women and a member of the parish “Prayer Line.”
Irene is survived by her son, Ernest Naylor Jr and his fiancée Janice Allen of Methuen. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and good friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her three brothers; Arthur, William and Robert F. Burdin.
Visitation for Irene will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 1 -5 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11 AM at Saint Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 110 N.
