Irene Florence (Dunlap) O'Callaghan's Obituary
Irene Florence Dunlap O’Callaghan, 80 of Lawrence, passed away in her home on October 22, 2020, surrounded by her husband, daughter, and granddaughter.
On January 21, 1940, Irene was born to the late Joseph and Rita Dunlap, and she graduated from Lawrence High School’s class of 1958. Irene was an active member of the Lawrence Lodge of Elks, a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians, and she volunteered at the Lawrence senior center. She had a passion for animals, no matter what the animal was. She loved to discuss politics and be involved in local candidate’s campaigns. Her idea of policy was always for the people, never against. She intended on volunteering to assist at the voting polls in this upcoming presidential election, as she had done for countless elections prior.
Irene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edward L. O’Callaghan Sr., daughter, Rita R. O’Callaghan, granddaughter, Emily A. Cortes, sister, Rosemarie Fitzgerald, and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her son, Edward L. O’Callaghan Jr., her brother, Joseph Dunlap and his wife, Mary.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Irene’s life by gathering for her calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 10- 11 AM. Her funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary/Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks will be required at the funeral home and social distancing must be followed. If you have a health or other underlying concern, please do not attend.
