Hazel S. Belanger's Obituary
Hazel S. Belanger (Collins), 97, a longtime resident of Lawrence, MA, passed away at her home on Wednesday November 1, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry J. Belanger, with whom she enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage. She was a daughter of the “Old Dominion”, born in Pulaski, VA on August 29, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Marvin and Lizzie (McHone) Collins.
Hazel worked for the DuPont Co. in Richmond, VA during World War II, which is where she met her late husband. The couple settled in Lawrence, MA in 1946. A homemaker for many years, Hazel returned to work at Western Electric as a test operator in the crystal room as well as layout operator until her retirement in 1987.
She was very active with her local parish, Sacred Heart, and volunteered to work at the craft fairs which she especially enjoyed. Hazel was a faith-filled person which she shared with anyone who knew her. She served as president for the Third Order of Mary, a lay organization devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary.
Hazel was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and St. Augustine Church. Once retired, Hazel, along with her husband, did travel often to visit family, friends, and his former shipmates from the U.S.S. Denver. They had many happy memories and photos from these visits.
Hazel was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed by all. She was predeceased by her son, John M. Belanger, twin brother, Clinton Collins and sister, June (Collins) Greenwood.
She is survived by her children, Patricia A. (Belanger) Jarrell of Derry, NH, son Robert H. Belanger, and his wife, Pamela (Allen) of Methuen, MA, and Linda M. (Belanger) Wasylak, and her husband, Stephen Jr. of Dracut. Hazel is also survived by her grandchildren, Debra, Philip, Rachel, Robin, Victoria, as well as her great grandchildren, Harold and Danny. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex St, Andover, MA, followed by burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Boston Rd., Lowell, MA.
