Guy Berube's Obituary
Guy Berube, 81, a longtime resident of Methuen, passed away while surrounded by his family on Friday, December 15, 2023, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, MA.
Son of the late Alcide Berube and Sylvia (Guy) (Berube) Lavigne, he attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA. He was hired by Textron in June of 1962 as an Engineering Apprentice and in 1973 graduated from Merrimack College with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. With a passion for learning, he went on to complete the Northeastern University Engineering Masters Program and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Engineering Management Program.
In July of 1967 at Saint Monica’s Church in Methuen, he married the love of his life, Marie Lamontagne, a Merrimack College graduate and high school teacher. Married for over 56 years, together they raised four daughters and a son: Michelle (Berube) Hartmann of Derry, NH; Kevin Berube of Golden CO; Christine (Berube) Thoreson of Newburyport, MA; Lynn (Berube) Walters of Haverhill, MA; and Alison (Berube) Schneider of West Newbury, MA. Over time, Guy and Marie’s family of seven grew into a “tribe” of thirty, including seventeen beautiful grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy.
After 46 years of employment, Guy retired from Textron in 2008 and continued as an active member of the Textron Systems Retirees Association. Guy enjoyed spending time with family at his vacation home on Cape Cod doing all the things he loved best, and claimed summertime “was like running a vacation camp.” He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening, fishing, snowmobiling, and tinkering in his well-stocked garage.
In addition to his loving wife, children and grandchildren, Guy is also survived by his two brothers, Raymond P. Berube of Alexandria, VA and Robert J. Berube of Methuen, MA; a sister, Louise M. Berube of Kingston, NH; as well as many other beloved family members and friends. He was predeceased by his older brother, Arthur A. Berube of Hampstead, NH.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Burial to follow at Saint Mary - Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Methuen, MA.
