Gertrude Florence Routhier's Obituary
Gertrude “Gert” Florence Routhier, 88, of North Andover, former longtime resident of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2020 surrounded by her devoted family at the Sutton Hill Center.
Born in Methuen on April 17, 1931 to the late William E. and Delia (Carrier) Mailhot, Gert attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and graduated from Lawrence High School. After high school, she worked for many years at Raytheon where she met many lifelong friends. Gert as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, met the love of her life and was joined in wedded bliss on November 8, 1953. As a devout Catholic, she was a member of the 3rd Order of Mary Immaculate and was a communicant of Sacred Heart until the parish closed. Gert was a selfless person who always advocated for those who less fortunate than her, especially of the residents at the Sutton Hill Center.
Gert was the proud and beloved matriarch of her large family where she was the den mother for her sons’ Boy Scout troop and was always involved in many of the family activities. She enjoyed the many pleasures that life had to offer; camping, being an avid competitive swimmer, playing bingo & cards, and loving all things of related to sports. Gert who touched many lives in many different circles will fondly be loved, cherished, missed and in her own words “I love you, I love you all.”
Gert is survived by her eight loving children; her daughter Rita Persichetti and her husband Stephen of Fitchburg, MA, her daughter Rachel Roby and her husband Stephen of Lawrence, MA, her son Glenn Routhier and his wife Audrey of Clermont, FL, her son Mark Routhier of Methuen, her son Kevin Routhier and his wife Wendellyn of Chesterfield, VA, her daughter Marie Ladd and her husband John of Concord, NC, her son Leo Routhier also of Methuen, and her daughter Susan Routhier and her husband Armand also of Clermont, FL. She was the grandmother to her twenty grandchildren and great-grandmother of seven. Gert is also survived by her brother Paul Mailhot of Florida and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in June, 2007 by her soulmate and husband J.N. Leo Routhier with whom she celebrated 53 years of marriage together. Gert was also predeceased by her siblings; Philippe Mailhot, Dorothy St. Hailaire, Ernest Mailhot, Rita Pepin, Henry Mailhot and William Mailhot.
To honor Gert’s wishes all services will be privately held.
