George L. Martin's Obituary
George L. Martin, 84, of Methuen, passed away at home on April 26, 2018 surrounded by his devoted family. He was born on May 11, 1933 to the late James and Julia (Lambert) Martin in Lawrence. George, a lifelong devout Catholic, was a communicant at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa’s Parish. He served on many committees at the church donating both his time and resources for many different projects. George and his wife were both members of the Socialites. As a union carpenter, a proud 50 year member of Carpenter’s Union Local 111, he worked for Charles Construction Company and retired from Holy Family Hospital as a project manager. He assisted with building many of the buildings in the Merrimack Valley. George loved camping and travelling, he and his wife visited over 45 different states, as well as Europe and Canada. He was a selfless, devoted, family man who was the patriarch of his family. He enjoyed woodworking and helping those in need. George touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished, and missed by all.
George is survived by his three devoted children; his daughter, Maureen LaRivee and her husband, Lee of Bradford, his son, George Martin and his longtime companion Gwen Martone of Methuen, and his son, Kevin Martin and his wife Rebecca of Pelham, NH. He was the proud grandfather to Matthew and his wife Stephanie, Andrew, Laura, and Alyssa, and his great grandson Jake. George is also survived by his two brothers, James Martin of Hampton, NH and Leo A. Martin of North Andover, MA, and his sister, Jeanette Adams of Methuen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Rita (Therrien) Martin, in November, 2017, with whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage together. He was also predeceased by his brother Raymond Martin.
Visitation for George will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial tol be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel / St. Theresa’s Parish, 22 Plymouth St, Methuen. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery 130, N. Lowell St, Methuen.
