George Donald Berube's Obituary
George Donald Berube, 86, of Groveland, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his cherished home. He was the devoted husband of Juanita Berube, with whom he shared 68 years of a beautiful marriage.
Born in Methuen on November 13, 1938, Don was the son of the late George and Doris (Lavialette) Berube. A graduate of Lawrence Evening High School, Don carried a strong work ethic and a zest for life that touched everyone he met. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy, a chapter of his life he recalled with pride and camaraderie.
Don’s fingers danced across the piano keys with a magic that was entirely self-taught. Whether he was filling the Roma Restaurant in Haverhill with soulful melodies or serenading his family and friends, his music was a gift that brought people together. His heart was happiest on the open water or the open road. An avid motorcyclist, he felt the thrill of the wind in his hair as he rode through life’s journeys. His true sanctuary, however, was aboard his two beloved boats docked in Newburyport. There, he was the ultimate host, welcoming both family and friends. Whether cruising on the open water or hosting lively gatherings on dock, Don’s love for his boats was matched only by his love for those who joined him there. Winters found him in Florida, where he and Juanita built a second home filled with sunshine, close friendships, and cherished memories.
Don’s legacy lives on through his family, who will forever carry his warmth and spirit. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita; his son, Scott Berube, and his wife, Colleen, of Groveland; his daughter, Julie Jancsy, and her husband, Ed, of Kingston, NH; three grandchildren, Chelsi Martell and her husband, Calvin, Scott Berube, Jr., and Jason Green and his wife, Bianca; ten great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Luke, Cameron, Emma, Gianna, Paityn, Ella, Eduardo, and Fernando; brother, George Berube and wife, Donna of Merrimac, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey, his grandson, Christopher, and his sister, Marsha Catalano, whose memories he held dear.
A graveside service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made in Don’s name to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed St, Haverhill, MA 01832, a cause close to his heart as a proud veteran.
