In Loving Memory of Gena (DiCalogero) Mical
Gena Marie (DiCalogero) Mical, 96, passed away on Wednesday February 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, MA.
Born in Lawrence MA, on May 1, 1927, to the late Vincenzo “Jimmy Carlo” and Antonietta (Lauria) DiCalogero. The DiCalogero’s were a large loving Italian family who immigrated from Sicily. She was one of their seven children; Phyllis, Rose, Mary, Gena, Eleanor, Josephine and Phillip.
Gena grew up in Lawrence where she attended the Tarbox School before beginning careers at Karelis Shoe Co. in Haverhill, MA covering heels and Lucent Technologies in North Andover, MA as an assembler.
In the prime of her life she met her beloved husband Frank “Mike” Mical at the Commodore Dance Hall in Lowell, MA. Gena and Mike began a family in Lawrence where they had four sons; Richard, John, James and Peter. The Mical family spent their summers at Salisbury Beach before Gena and Mike relocated there permanently in 1990 where she would enjoy the company of her son Peter, daughter-in-law Dale and her four grandchildren along with the love of her life Mike for the rest of the 73 years of their marriage.
She enjoyed spending her time with family as well as reading, cooking, playing card games, especially 45s and solitaire and watching her favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.
Gena is survived by her husband Mike, their son Peter, his wife Dale, her four grandchildren; Jimmy, Billy, Joey & Michaela Mical of Salisbury, MA, her sister Rose Campagnone of Lawrence, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons; Richard, John & James Mical, her siblings; Phyllis Canty, Mary Hervieux, Eleanor DiCalogero, Josephine DiCalogero & Phillip DiCalogero.
Gena and her family would like to extend a huge thank you to her care team at Port Healthcare Center and Harborside Hospice for going above and beyond for the family in an extremely difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday February 29, 2024, from 9 AM to 10 AM at Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
