Mr. Frederick Jarrett "Pops" Beeley's Obituary
Frederick Jarrett “Pops” Beeley, 101, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.
Fred was born in Methuen, MA on May 18, 1922 to the late Peter and Ellen (Taylor) Beeley. He attended Howe Street Grammar School and Searles High School in Methuen. After high school, he became a steam fitter at the Charlestown Navy Yard and worked on the battleship USS Massachusetts. He enlisted in the United States Army just after the outbreak of WWII. Because of his mechanical skills, he was made a crew chief working primarily on B-17 and B-29 aircraft. During his time in the service he met and married the love of his life, Y. Beatrice Charette.
After the service, Fred and Bea settled in the Merrimack Valley Area before they moved to Howe Street in Methuen in the house that Fred built in 1954, where until this day his fourth generation family members reside. Fred went on to own and operate F.J. Beeley & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning for 36 years until his retirement in 1991.
Fred was actively involved with the American Legion, John Hancock Masonic Lodge, The Bodies of the Scottish Rite, and Aleppo Temple Shrine. He also loved golfing, bowling, hockey, spending time at his former Lake House in Laconia, NH, on Lake Winnisquam. Fred was a lifelong Boston Sports fan, especially enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Bruins. He especially loved spending time with his beloved family. Fred also made great memories during his winter months in Palm Bay, Florida.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Y. Beatrice (Charette) Beeley; and siblings, Howard Beeley, Richard Beeley, William Beeley, Peter Beeley, Elizabeth Fox, Florence Beeley, June Spangenberger, Mabel Dorin and Ellen Dolan.
Fred will be deeply missed by his 4 children, Donna Berube and her husband, George, Frederick R. Beeley and his wife, Patricia, Paul Beeley and his wife, Judith, and William Beeley and his wife, Mary Ellen; his cherished 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind many family and lifelong friends.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Fred’s life by gathering for his calling hours from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen.
