Evelyn M. Shields' Obituary
Methuen – Evelyn M. (Goodsell) Shields, 92 of Methuen, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Barrett and John Shields.
Born in Lawrence on August 21, 1927, she was the daughter of Joel and Evelyn (Evans) Goodsell. Evelyn was the activities director at the Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen for several years until her retirement. Evelyn was a great cook. She enjoyed providing entertainment for the residents at the Nevins Nursing Home, as well as other area nursing homes. She also loved craft work.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her 6 sons, Robert E. Barrett and his wife, Janice of Derry, NH, William J. Barrett of Manchester, NH, Michael D. Barrett of Albuquerque, NM, Daniel S. Barrett and his wife, Karen of Arizona, Thomas P. Barrett and his wife, Susan of Methuen, and John F. Barrett and his wife, Cheri of Derry, NH; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Evelyn’s life by gathering for her calling hours on Saturday, January 4, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, in Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beacon Hospicean Amedisys Company, 290 Merrimack Street, Suite 242, Lawrence, MA 01843.
