Elsa L. Marte's Obituary
Elsa L. (Francis) Marte, 90, of North Andover, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Lawrence General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Rafael Marte.
Born on November 14, 1933, in La Romana, Dominican Republic, Elsa was the daughter of Richardson and Daisy Regina (King) Francis. After her marriage to Rafael, she dedicated herself to a career in education, imparting knowledge and wisdom to young minds for over a decade. Elsa's faith was a cornerstone of her life, leading her to be an active member of the Iglesia Fe Apostólica in the Dominican Republic, Bronx, NY, and Lawrence, MA.
Elsa's passions extended beyond the classroom; she found joy in creative pursuits like sewing, crocheting, and embroidering, skills she shared generously with her loved ones. Her enthusiasm for teaching manifested in her enjoyment of creating intricate world maps. Among her treasured memories was a Mediterranean cruise shared with her daughter Elsa and son-in-law Gus, creating unforgettable moments together.
Elsa's legacy lives on through her five devoted children: Elsa Mendieta and husband Gus of Methuen, Glenys Richardson and husband Rafael of Salem, NH, Rafael Marte and wife Natalia of New Jersey, Novel Marte and wife Angelina of Manchester, NH, and Israel Marte of the Dominican Republic. She will also be fondly remembered by her five sisters, Luz Tejada, Olga Anderson, Norma Francis, Ruth Montes De Oca and husband Juan, and Alba Mejia; eight grandchildren, Adrian, Nicholas, Andre, Daniel, Kaylee, Lucas, Hannah, and Zachary; three great-grandchildren, Vienna, Aliyah, and Olivia, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elsa was preceded in death by her brothers, Fernando and Gabriel Francis.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Elsa's remarkable life during calling hours from 9 – 11 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the funeral home, with burial at Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
