Ellen Mailloux's Obituary
Ellen (Bourque) Mailloux, 88, of Methuen, MA, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2024, after a long illness. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
Ellen was born in Boston, MA on February 12, 1936, lived in Lawrence, MA, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1954. She married the late Robert “Babe” Mailloux of Andover, MA and they had five children, thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Ellen and Babe spent the early years of marriage raising their children and participating in the daily operation of “Babe’s Market” which was their small, well-known butcher shop and variety store located on the corner of Coolidge and Sanborn Street in Lawrence, MA. Other employment in Ellen’s lifetime included working for Town Printing in Andover as a bookkeeper, and the Lawrence Eagle Tribune as a composer and master proofreader. She retired in 1996 and was devoted to helping and participating in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading books, writing short stories, singing, playing the piano, watching old movies and musicals, and sewing craft items to sell at local craft fairs. She mostly enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her family and friends and was a magnificent host. She loved to send cards for any occasion to all that she knew and always signed “Love Ellen” in her beautiful, scripted handwriting.
Ellen is survived by her son, Robert Mailloux, Jr., his wife, Susan and their children, Jacob and Hayden Mailloux, son, Ronald Mailloux, his wife, Katherine and their children, RJ and Rachael Mailloux, son, Russell Mailloux, his wife, Cynthia and their children, Benjamin Mailloux, his wife, Haley and their daughter, Ayla, Samuel and Danielle Mailloux, daughter, Michelle Scala, her husband, Scott, and their children, Steven, Christina, and Alexis Scala, and son, Michael Mailloux, his wife, Gina and children, Kathryn, Lauren, and Allyson Mailloux. She is also survived by her sister in law, Isabelle Mailloux, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Monday April 1, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA. Ellen’s Funeral Mass will be held on the next day, Tuesday April 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM, in St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. Burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA.
