Elizabeth F. (Fleming) McMorrow's Obituary
Elizabeth F. (Fleming) McMorrow, 84, of longtime resident of Methuen, formerly of Lawrence passed away on February 19, 2020 after a brief illness at Holy Family Hospital surrounded by her devoted family. Born in Lawrence on February 7, 1936 to the late John P. and Elizabeth (Roche) Fleming, she attended St. Mary’s High School graduating with the Class of 1953. Believing in the value of a post- secondary education, Elizabeth attended Lesley College graduating with a degree in education with the Class of 1957. She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Education from Salem State University with the Class of 1959. A lifelong devout Catholic, Elizabeth was a communicant for Saint Monica’s Parish. She was driven by her passion and devotion for her family and her teaching career.
Elizabeth touched many lives in many different circles and will be loved, cherished and missed by all. She began a career that started in Haverhill for four years and spent nearly the next forty years as an educator for the Lawrence City School District. Elizabeth was a selfless, kind and caring soul who advocated for many. She was a proud member of the local Lawrence teacher’s union and remained very active socially with her teacher colleagues many of whom were her oldest and closest friends.
As the beloved matriarch of her family, Elizabeth is survived by her two sons; John A McMorrow Jr & his wife Donna of Scarborough, ME, and Peter McMorrow and his wife Diane of Paxton, MA. She was the devoted and cherished grandmother to her six grandchildren; Hayley, Shona, Michael, Eamon, Sean, & Audrey. Elizabeth is also survived by her siblings; her brother David M. Fleming and his wife Mary Ann of Methuen, and her sister in law Phyllis Fleming of North Andover. She is also survived by a large extended family that includes many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, CWO2 John A. McMorrow in December, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers John H. & Paul T. Fleming and her sister in law Mary Ellen Fleming.
Visitation for Elizabeth will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 11 AM at Saint Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 29 Barker Street, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Elizabeth’s memory to a charity of your own choosing.
