Eleanor C. (McKenna) Coogan's Obituary
Eleanor C. (McKenna) Coogan, 95, of Methuen, MA, passed away on January 2, 2024, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA.
Born in Medford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Johnson) McKenna. Eleanor was raised with her siblings in Reading, MA where she was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, Class of 1946. After school she joined the United States Marine Corp and rose to the rank of Corporeal. Upon her honorable discharge she settled in the area and worked many years at Andover Country Club and Thompsons Restaurant in North Andover. She was also a secretary at Western Electric until her retirement in 1993. She was an avid crossword puzzle player and knitter, and enjoyed being an organist for many local parishes over the years.
She leaves behind a daughter, Carla (Olson) Sweetra and husband, Ronald of North Andover, MA, grandchildren, Kelly Xagaras and husband, Nicholas of Haverhill, MA, Patrick Sweetra and his wife, Emily of North Reading, MA, Caitlin Taylor and her husband, Robert of Knoxville, MD. She also leaves behind her brother, James McKenna and his wife, Linda of Statham, GA, grandchildren, Ava, Alexis, and Angelique Xagaras of Haverhill, Fox and Vincent Taylor of Knoxville, TN, Wesley and Elizabeth Sweetra of North Reading MA. She was predeceased by her husband, John Coogan, sister, Jeanette Heffernan and her daughter, Catherine Olson.
Services will be private.
