Douglas M. Hamel's Obituary
Douglas M. Hamel, 68 of Methuen, died of cancer on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at his childhood home, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, and eldest granddaughter at his side.
Doug was born in Methuen on May 21, 1954, the son of the late Alfred and Lucille (Blanchette) Hamel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a production operator with 3M for the last 8 years. Doug was a big sports fan, but was an even bigger Tom Brady fan. He loved playing golf and even golfed occasionally in the winter. He was an avid tennis player, remaining proudly undefeated against his daughters. He was also a huge history buff. His final wish, which was granted, was to spend this past Christmas at home with his family.
Doug will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen (Andreoli) Hamel; 3 daughters, Sarah Hamel-Spight and her husband, Bral, of North Andover, Kathryn “Katie” Hamel and her significant other, Will, of Methuen and Leanne Hamel of Methuen; 8 siblings, Linda Smith and her husband, Louis, of Louisville, KY, Catherine Michaels and her husband, Walter, of Leominster, MA, Sheila Baker and her husband, Robert, of Maitland, FL, Jack Hamel and his wife, Debra, of Bushnell, FL, Shirley Leavitt and her husband, Scott, of Lakewood, GA, Cynthia Pettingill and her husband, Forest, of Nashua, NH, Roy Hamel and his wife, Jean, of Kingston, NH, and Leslie Fallisi and her husband, Mark, of Salem, NH; 7 grandchildren, Zyanna, Dominic, Amber, Brenna, Gianna, Xavier, and Giselle; in-laws, Janet (Andreoli) Beck and her husband, Bill, of Lawrence, MA, Victor A. Andreoli and his wife, Paula, of North Andover, MA, and Victor Andreoli of Methuen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Doug’s life by gathering for his calling hours on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
