Dorothy M. Scott's Obituary
Dorothy M. (Bowser) Scott, 93, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Salemhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem, NH, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Scott.
Born on March 28, 1932, in Amesbury, MA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Wallace and Victoria (Romanowski) Bowser. Raised on her family’s farm in Amesbury, she carried fond memories of growing up there. These early years shaped her deep appreciation for simple joys and family. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society in her vibrant years. She enjoyed her time at Salem Senior Citizens Center gatherings and exercise classes.
Dorothy’s heart belonged to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She delighted in their visits, and enjoyed cooking for them and playing board games. She really enjoyed making spaghetti sauce, a recipe that was more than food—it was love poured into every simmer. Her kitchen was the heart of her home. Dorothy also cherished drives to the Amesbury coast, where she’d gaze at the ocean and reminisce about her childhood, pointing out landmarks to her family.
Dorothy is survived by her three children: Judy Gaffny of Newburyport, MA, Joseph Scott and his wife, Maureen, of Salisbury, MA, and Cathy Tremblay and her husband, Russell, of Methuen, MA; nine grandchildren who were her pride and joy; ten great-grandchildren who brought her great joy, her dear sister, Frances Morse of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Joanne Hodgdon.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Dorothy’s life on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with calling hours from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Her Mass of Catholic Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, where she will rest beside her late husband, Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Dorothy’s memory to St. Monica St. Vincent de Paul, 254 Merrimack Street, Methuen, MA 01844. For directions or to share a condolence, please visit www.pollardfuneralhome.com.
