Dorothy "Monica" (Gosselin) Pitman's Obituary
Dorothy “Monica” (Gosselin) Pitman, 90, of Methuen, passed away at Holy Family Hospital after a sudden illness on December 19, 2017.
Monica, as she is affectionately known to her family and friends, was born to Anthony A. and Lillian (Desjourdy) Gosselin on December 13, 1927. Born, raised and educated in Lawrence, she graduated with the Class of 1945 from Saint Joseph’s High School. A lifelong devout Catholic, she was a communicant at Saint Monica’s Parish. Monica was a woman who was very selfless with her time and had a deep compassion for advocacy, often volunteering for many different causes that spanned her entire life. She was an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Methuen Activity Center and also served as Chair of the Methuen Council on Aging. Monica truly believed in helping children often reading to the 2nd grade children in the Methuen School District and organized the distribution of handmade mittens to children in the Greater Lawrence area. In her spare time she loved quilting and spending time with her family. Monica volunteered on many elections as a poll worker. She also worked for many years as a bookkeeper at several local businesses, and retired from Lady Finnelle. Monica touched many lives in many different circles and will truly be remembered, loved, and cherished.
Monica is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John F. Pitman, of Methuen. She was the devoted mother to her daughter, Jane E. Hamel and her husband Roger of Newton, NH. Monica was the proud grandmother to her two grandchildren; Susan E. Denison and her husband Ron of St. Albans, VT, and Adam M. Hamel and his wife Christine of Methuen. She was the cherished great-grandmother to Matthew D. Banks, John J. Leone-Hamel and William M. Leone-Hamel. Monica was the sister to Constance Grew of Lawrence, Raymond E. Gosselin of CA, and Sylvia Gagnon of Haverhill. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Monica was preceded in death by her great-grandson Joshua P. Banks and her brother John A. Gosselin.

Visitation for Monica will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 9 AM at Saint Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen.
