Donald A. Corneau's Obituary
Donald A. Corneau, 70, of Methuen, MA, passed away at home on May 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 29, 1948 to the late Leo E. and Mary A. (Sawchuk) Corneau in Lawrence, MA, he attended Haverhill High School and Trade School, graduating with the Class of 1966. Like so many of his generation, Donald answered the call to service with the US Army during the Vietnam War, serving honorably and with distinction. After his enlistment ended, he completed his Associate Degree from Andover Junior College and worked for Polyvinyl Chemical as a lead manager until his early retirement.
The beloved patriarch of his family, Donald was a selfless and kind soul. Without hesitation, he always strove to help others, finding the right solution for any situation. He was known for his generosity and benevolence to those less fortunate than himself, always aspiring to provide inspiration and guidance to those he loved. Donald was a great father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather who knew his way around the kitchen, and who created masterpieces of stained-glass art. He was a member of the American Legion Post 122, Disabled American Veterans, and he used his many talents building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Donald touched many lives and will fondly be loved, remembered, and missed by all.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Rachel L. (Westerberg) Corneau of Methuen, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. He was the cherished father of his three children, his daughter, Ashley Jina, and his son, Zachary Adam, and his dog, Shadow. He was the proud grandfather of his granddaughter, Lydia Belle, daughter of Zachary and his partner, Molly Shelton. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene Doucette, and her husband Richard (Arnie) of Derry, NH, his sister-in-law, Elaine Corneau of Methuen, his aunt Phyllis Fancy of Salem, NH, and his 12 nieces and 3 nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Corneau.
To honor Donald’s wishes, all service will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Donald’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans, State House, #546, Boston, MA 02133. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is proud to serve the Corneau family.
