Claire P. LeSaffre's Obituary
Claire (Carney) LeSaffre, a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023 at the remarkable age of 97. Claire was a life-long resident of Methuen, MA, where she was born in 1926. Her journey through life was one of boundless joy, cherished relationships, and a heart that radiated warmth to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Claire lived a life defined by kindness, grace, and most of all humor.
Claire’s legacy lives on through her four devoted sons: Daniel LeSaffre and his wife, Marian, of West Caldwell, New Jersey; Mark LeSaffre and Deborah Rich, of Westport, MA; Christopher LeSaffre and his wife, Fran, of Salem, New Hampshire; and Peter LeSaffre and his wife, Mary Lou, of Rye, New Hampshire. Her profound influence extends to her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Claire was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Luke LeSaffre; her sister, Mary McGurn; her brother, James Carney; and her best friend since kindergarten, Rita Foley.
Claire’s positive attitude and charming personality were a magnetic force. Her bond with her girlfriends was an extraordinary source of joy and often carried out over hours long phone conversations. While not known for her culinary skills, she was a wonderful companion at mealtimes and cherished her weekly lunch dates with her girlfriends at Friendly’s in Methuen. These gatherings, beginning at noon every Friday and usually extended till late afternoon, were true testament to the strength of her friendships.
For years, Claire was a dedicated part time salesclerk at the Jewelry Counter at Jordan Marsh, Methuen, and a member of the Andover Garden Club among other social groups.
As we bid farewell to Claire, we remember her as a remarkable matriarch who left an indelible impact on all who knew her. Her unmatched elegance, positivity, humor and kindness will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace, Claire. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
