Charles J. Russek's Obituary
Charles J. Russek of Methuen, formerly of North Reading passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Methuen Village on December 16, 2017. He was born in New York and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia by his maternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Charles was educated in the Catholic school system in West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army Airforce/Airforce where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant and served as crew chief on a B-29 Bomber until his honorable discharge on April 1, 1952. He lived in North Reading for 35 years and was employed for 30 years with Avco/Textron as a Test Engineer until his retirement in 1990.
Charles will be fondly remembered for his kindness to all and his witty sense of humor. He was blessed with the ability to tackle any project and persevere whether it was fixing the neighbors appliances, car, or building furniture that still fills our homes with love today. Above all, Charles cherished his family the most. He devoted his life to his children and grandchildren and will forever be missed.
Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy with whom he was married for 47 wonderful years and had two children. He leaves a daughter Patricia and her husband John Bartlett of Methuen; a son, Charles and his wife Nora Russek of Methuen; five grandchildren, Danielle and her husband Tim Cooper, Nicole and John Bartlett; Stacey and Charles Russek; two special nieces Patricia and Christina and their families; as well as other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Charles’ family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Methuen Village Assisted Living and the Compassionate Care Hospice staff for their care and support. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours. Everyone is invited to attend a funeral Mass on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Parish, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut, MA. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801.
