Carolyn I. (Roan) Goodwin's Obituary
Carolyn I. (Roan) Goodwin, 96, of Lawrence, former longtime resident of Methuen, passed away on September 19, 2018 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center. She was born on February 4, 1922, to the late John and Harriet (Floyd) Roan in East Boston, MA. After graduating with the Class of 1939 from Winthrop High School, Carolyn received her degree from Boston City Hospital in 1943 as a registered nurse. She worked for many years until her retirement from Holy Family Hospital. A deeply religious woman, Carolyn was a lifelong devout Catholic and was a former communicant of St. Monica’s Parish. She was a selfless, strong willed woman who was dedicated to her family and friends. Carolyn was a compassionate and caring woman who touched many lives in many different circles.
Carolyn is survived by her two devoted children; her daughter, Carolyn M. Danforth and her husband Richard of Portsmouth, NH and her son, Gene Goodwin and his wife Elaine of Windham, NH. She was the proud grandmother to her seven grandchildren and great-grandmother to eight. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband James W. Goodwin, with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage, her son James W. Goodwin, and her brother John Roan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Carolyn will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, 10 AM at St. Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence St, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. To honor Carolyn’s wishes interment will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Carolyn’s memory to the Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services, 172 Lawrence Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
