Carol Ann Smith's Obituary
Carol Ann Smith, 79, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
Carol was born in Lawrence Mass, daughter of the late Yvonne Bertha Gaumond, and Steven Smith. She attended St. Ann’s grammar and high school. Carol was president of her senior year class and to this day still enjoys the friendships of many of her classmates.
Much of Carol’s life was dedicated to her family and friends. In her earlier years she loved to travel where she enjoyed discovering new places along with meeting new people.
Carol belonged to Our Lady of Good Counsel-St. Theresa’s Parish and was a beloved member of the choir for several years. She loved her home of twelve years that looked out to St. Theresa’s and enjoyed hearing church bells daily. She had a guardian angel, Pauline Halloran, living below her on the first floor, that was there for her when any emergency occurred and always made sure she had plenty to eat. Carol’s family will be forever grateful for her awareness and kindness.
Carol was employed for decades at Western Electric as a secretary. She was with the company through all the changes from ATT to finally retiring after the company became Lucent Technologies. She formed many lifelong friendships there and to this day holds many of those same friends close to her heart.
Nothing held a higher place in Carol’s life than that of her family. For several decades her home was the place to be for Christmas Eve. Many of our memories are that celebrated with Aunt Florence and Aunt Ida, all of her siblings, every niece and nephew and the unforgotten four-legged friends, Skippy, Snuffy, and Jingles.
Carol’s Christmas tree was always the most beautiful each of us had ever seen. The lights, decorations, and unbelievable village, that rested under the tree and encompassed much of the room, will always remain in our dreams. To this day, with all the hundreds of ornaments that adorn her tree, her favorites and truly most loved, we’re those made by all Carol’s nieces and nephews. Even after 60 or so years, she knew who made those homemade and unrecognizable ornaments, but it didn’t matter because they were made of love….and that was her.
Up until the past few years Carol never missed a cookout, birthday, christening, communion, confirmation, graduation, wedding…..and her presents were the best.! The wrapping alone was always an art form, something that many of her nieces take pride in today. She celebrated every holiday or occasion she could with the best decor.
Carol is survived by her sister Patricia Lavoie and her husband Rene, and she will be joining her siblings, Stephen Smith, Gloria Desfosses, Nancy Naroian, and Robert Smith, in heaven. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and her special cat, Penny.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a funeral mass scheduled on Dec. 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Council-St. Theresa’s Parish, 22 Plymouth St. Methuen, MA.
