Carl A. Cioffi's Obituary
Carl Anthony Cioffi, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He was born in New York City and graduated from Winthrop High School, class of 1953. Carl’s 88 years were marked by a profound love for family.
Carl worked as a systems analyst and computer operator for decades and, after official retirement, continued to work as an IRS employee until the age of 75. Carl was a United States Army veteran who served overseas in France in the late 1950s. He loved seeing his brother, Tony in Europe, who served overseas at the same time.
Carl’s greatest pride was his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He would do anything for them and believed they could do anything they set their mind to; even when others told him it might be impossible, he still believed, and often, he was right. He truly enjoyed coaching his children in sports and watching their sporting events over the years.
Carl was highly intelligent, an encyclopedia of knowledge of many things, especially music and world affairs. He enjoyed a good game of cards, the warm California sunshine when visiting family, and thoughtful discussions. His memory was unparalleled, never forgetting anything or anyone. He had a strong sense of what was right and just and encouraged others to use their voice for positive change. Carl always kept hope for a better tomorrow.
He was predeceased in death by his son, Charles (Chuck) Cioffi; brother, Tony Cioffi; mother, Alice (Buffa) Hennessey; and father, Charles Hennessey.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marguerite (McHugh) Cioffi; his son, Paul Cioffi and his wife, Karen Cioffi of Methuen; his daughter, Caren Cioffi-Weinshel and her husband, Evan Weinshel of Burlingame, CA; his grandchildren, Mark Mozdziez, Ryan Cioffi, Ethan Weinshel, and Caleigh Weinshel; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. Funeral services will be held immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cioffi Family.
