Brian G. McCabe's Obituary
Methuen ? Brian McCabe, 76, of Methuen, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of Maryellen, to whom she was married for 58 years.
Born in Lawrence on April 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Bernard A. and Sabina (Sheridan) McCabe. He worked as a supervisor at Raytheon in Andover and in Saudi Arabia. He then worked as an environmental manager for the city of Methuen. He was a highly decorated Marine during Vietnam War. He served in the Marine Corps in 1956 to 1958 and then rejoined the Marines to serve in Vietnam in 1968 with Delta Company, 1st Division, 5th Marines Regiment. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation with Star. National Defense with a Star, Vietnam Service Ribbon, with Star, Vietnam Cross of Gall, Vietnam Action Ribbon, and a Recipient of the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.
He was a life member of the D.A.V. He was also an active member of the Arnold Greenwood, Post #8349, V.F.W. in Methuen and also of the Purple Heart Chapter. He enjoyed his time spent with the men he served with in vietnam ,who he became good friends with after their years of service together In his free time, Brian enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and refinishing antiques and using computers.
Brian will be deeply missed by his wife, Maryellen; his children, Brian Peter McCabe and his wife, Elizabeth; his sister, Patricia Anderson of Florida; his brother, Jack McCabe and his wife, Elaine of Arizona; his granddaughters, Meghan McCabe, Joy Sapienza, Colleen Murphy; and his great-grandson Evan Sapienza. He is predeceased by his son, Kenneth G. McCabe, his sisters Rosemary Clauson, and Catherine Landers,and his brother Bernard McCabe.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Brian's life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 3-7 PM. with military honors to follow.
