Betty Irene Pollard's Obituary
METHUEN, MA - Betty Irene (Duvall) Pollard, 97, of Methuen, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Nevins Nursing & Rehab Center in Methuen surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on May 28, 1926, in Branson, MO to Walter B. and Beulah M. (Navin) Duvall Sr. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from Higginsville High School. Betty married Kenneth H. Pollard, who she met while he was stationed in Missouri during WW II, in May of 1946. They were married 58 years, enjoying a wonderful life that brought them to Methuen, MA, Hillsboro Beach, FL, and Seabrook Beach, NH. He preceded her in death in November of 2004.
Betty was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of the former Samuel Adams Chapter. She was a founding member of the Tenney Preservation Association (now the Methuen Historical Society), an appointed member of the Methuen Historical Commission, a member of the St. Monica’s Ladies Sodality, and the Methuen Women’s Civic Association. She loved antiques and enjoyed taking painting and creative arts classes much of her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon M. Pollard and her husband, Thomas R. Lussier of Methuen, MA, Patricia S. George and her husband, Edward G. of Salem, NH; two sons, Michael N. and his wife, Maureen C. (Chamberlain) Pollard of Newburyport, MA, and K. Jeffrey and his wife, Laura J. (Grelle) Pollard of North Andover, MA; three granddaughters, Catherine E. (George) Toner and her husband, Gregory W. of Rehoboth, MA, Haley S. Pollard and her fiancé, Matthew W. Buck of Charlestown, MA, and Morgan E. Pollard of London, England; two grandsons, Christopher D. and his wife, Laurie F. (Smith) Palermo of West Chester, PA, and Kenneth P. Pollard of South Boston, MA; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Kendall Toner, and Adam and Sean Palermo; her brother, Thomas N. and his wife, Janet D. Duvall of Kimberling City, MO; her sister-in-law, Jacqueline M. Pollard of Salem, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brothers, James R. Duvall, Walter Duvall, Jr., and John “Jack” Duvall, her sister, Mary Evelyn Duvall, and her sister-in-law, Claire M. Pollard.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Betty’s life by gathering for her calling hours from 2 – 6 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
