Anne "Nancy" M. Masse's Obituary
On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Anne M. Masse passed away quietly at her home in Seabrook Beach, NH. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Norman G. Masse, Ph.D., and her parents, Helen (Keefe) Graney and James B. Graney.
Nancy, as her relatives and friends called her, grew up in Lawrence Massachusetts and graduated from St Mary’s High School and Emmanuel College, majoring in chemistry. While teaching in the Hamilton-Wenham, MA school district, Nancy married the love of her life, Norm Masse. Nancy and Norm were married for 46 years before Norm’s passing in 2006. Norm’s career took them to Newport Beach, CA and Wallingford, CT.
After her teaching career, Nancy delighted in devoting time to the yachting and social organizations she and Norm belonged to, highlighted by Norm’s participation in the annual Newport to Ensenada, Baja Yacht race. In 1992, Norm and Nancy retired to their favorite spot, Seabrook Beach, NH, where her beloved mother and father, Helen and Jim Graney, also resided. Many happy memories were made on Seabrook Beach, entertaining their large family and multitude of friends. Wonderful Thanksgiving celebrations were spent in Seabrook, which always included a football game on the beach.
Nancy was an avid reader throughout her life. She was highly appreciative of the wonderful staff of the Seabrook Library, who were so supportive of Nancy’s passion for mystery novels.
Nancy leaves her cousins, Carolyn Graney of South Portland, ME, Mary O’Reilly of Andover MA, Joanne Pekarski of Methuen, MA, and Thomas Graney and his wife Joan of Scarborough ME.
The family appreciates and admires the care provided to Nancy by her loving and compassionate neighbors Carole and Bill Howley of Seabrook Beach, NH, and the caring team of Bridget Creesy and Jessica Stevens of Visiting Angels, Newburyport, MA, Stephanie, owner of Lya’s Nursing Care Services, Inc., and her colleagues Abby, Deborah, Jamillette and Janilsa. The administration and staffs of Beacon Hospice, Edgewood Center, Exeter Hospital and Portsmouth Hospital also warmly supported Nancy’s care and comfort.
Per Nancy’s request, funeral services and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. For online guestbook, please visit the funeral home website, www.pollardfuneralhome.com. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Masse and Graney families.
