Alice R. Groves' Obituary
Methuen – Alice R. (McQuillan) Groves, 91 of Methuen, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Lawrence General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Groves.
Alice was born in Lawrence on September 27, 1926, the daughter of Peter and Margaret (O’Neill) McQuillan. She graduated from Lawrence High School and worked as a customer service representative for First Essex Bank in Lawrence until her retirement. She was a communicant at St. Monica’s Church and was an active member of the Nevins Day Program. Loving, kind, beautiful, patient and hard-working, Alice was the rock at the center of her large and loving family, all of whom she looked after with great pride and care.
Alice will be deeply missed by her 3 sons, Peter J. Groves of Methuen, Robert L. Groves and his partner Katherine Powers of Shutesbury, MA and Mark T. Groves of Weare, NH ; 7 daughters, Marion B. Groves-Hahn of Easthampton, MA, Maryalice Groves of West Newbury, MA, Ann M. Cote and her husband, Paul of Sandown, NH, Margaret M. Corsaro and her husband, Steve of Derry, NH, Elizabeth M. Waterman and her husband, Steven of Lawrence, Catherine M. Chang and her husband, Rick of Lawrence, and Amy M. Groves-Blanchet and her husband, Dan of Methuen; her sister, Anne Leslie of Cambridge, MA; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son-in-law, Keen S. Hahn, her brother, John McQuillan, and her 3 sisters, Mary Novak, Helena Williams, and Claire Brown.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Alice’s life by gathering for her calling hours on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at St. Mary/Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
