Alfred "Al" Lawrence Guilmet's Obituary
Alfred “Al” Lawrence Guilmet, 84, of Methuen, passed away on October 18, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lawrence on May 8, 1936 to the late Philip and Lucina (Moreau) Guilmet, he attended Lawrence High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. Like so many of his generation, Al enlisted and served honorably in the United States Coast Guard. As the hardworking patriarch of his cherished family, he had an amazing sense of humor and could always tell the greatest jokes. Al enjoyed spending time at Mann Orchards with his friends, playing golf and 45’s. He loved Boston sports and could recall stats for any team or any year. Al worked for many years until his retirement as the meat department manager at Market Basket and then a golf ranger at Hickory Hill Golf Course. A lifelong Catholic, he was a communicant at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Dracut. Al touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished and missed by all.
Al is survived by his beloved wife Barbara A. (Sweeney) Guilmet, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage. He was the dear father to his son, Keith Guilmet and his wife Noreen of Salem, NH, and his daughter, Deborah Hurtubise and her husband Kenneth of Dracut. Al was the proud grandfather to Alexandra Pettingell and her husband Bradford, Christopher Hurtubise, Alyssa Guilmet and Zack Guilmet, and great-grandfather to Madison Pettingell. He is the uncle to many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his eleven siblings.
Visitation for Al will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 9 – 10:00 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen.
