Alexis Gomez's Obituary
Alexis Gomez, 87, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Lawrence General Hospital. He was the beloved son of the late Edelmiro Gomez and Maria Luisa Vasquez.
Born in Moca, Dominican Republic, Alexis immigrated to the United States, initially settling in Long Island, NY, before making his home in Lawrence. A humble and devoted family man, he was known for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and deep love for those around him.
A lifelong learner, Alexis had an insatiable curiosity and often taught himself a wide range of subjects. He especially enjoyed reading and staying informed about politics. Outside of his intellectual pursuits, he loved swimming—particularly scuba diving—and had a strong passion for both horses and cars. He worked for many years as a skilled mechanic in the automotive industry, earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
For Alexis, family was everything. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Marta—their bond was one of true soulmates and best friends. As a father, he led by example, teaching his children the values of love, kindness, and respect, never uttering an unkind word about others. His quiet wisdom and gentle demeanor made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Alexis will be remembered as an exceptional person—a humble man, a family man, kind and brave, never forgetful of his roots. He lived a simple life, but one rich with meaning. For those fortunate enough to have sat in his presence, there was always a lesson to be learned. Through those lessons and the love he gave so freely, his memory will live on in all who knew him.
He predeceased 5 of his siblings.
Alexis is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marta S. Gomez; his adored children, Alexander Gomez and his wife, Elisa; Denice Gomez; Esther Marmolejo and her husband, Arturo; Ronald Gomez; Alexis Gomez Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth; and Maria Gomez and her husband, Giovanni. In addition, he leaves behind 4 siblings, 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Methuen Family Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.

Nacido en Moca, República Dominicana, Alexis emigró a los Estados Unidos, estableciéndose inicialmente en Long Island, NY, antes de fijar su residencia en Lawrence. Un hombre de familia, humilde y devoto, Alexis era conocido por su espíritu gentil, su fuerza tranquila y su profundo amor por quienes lo rodeaban.
Un aprendiz de por vida, Alexis tenía una curiosidad insaciable y a menudo aprendía por su cuenta una amplia variedad de temas. Disfrutaba especialmente leer y mantenerse informado sobre política. Fuera de sus actividades intelectuales, le encantaba nadar—especialmente el buceo—y tenía una gran pasión tanto por los caballos como por los autos. Trabajó durante muchos años como un mecánico hábil en la industria automotriz, ganándose el respeto tanto de sus colegas como el de sus clientes.
Para Alexis, la familia lo era todo. Era un esposo amoroso y devoto con su esposa, Marta—su vínculo era el de verdaderas almas gemelas y mejores amigos. Como padre, lideraba con el ejemplo, enseñando a sus hijos los valores del amor, la bondad y el respeto, sin pronunciar jamás una palabra hiriente sobre los demás. Su tranquila sabiduría y su comportamiento amable dejaron una impresión duradera en todos los que conoció.
Alexis será recordado como una persona excepcional—un hombre humilde, un hombre de familia, amable y valiente, que nunca olvidó sus raíces. Vivió una vida sencilla, pero rica en significado. Para aquellos que tuvieron la suerte de estar en su presencia, siempre había una lección que aprender. A través de esas lecciones y el amor que dio tan libremente, su memoria vivirá en todos los que lo conocieron.

Se invita a familiares y amigos a visitar el velatorio el domingo 19 de octubre de 2025, de 2:00 p. m. a 6:00 p. m., en la funeraria Methuen Family Funeral Home, ubicada en 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. El funeral se celebrará el lunes 20 de octubre de 2025 a las 10:30 a. m. en la capilla de la funeraria. A continuación, tendrá lugar el entierro en el cementerio St. Mary-Immaculate Conception, en Lawrence.
