Alberto L Carabello's Obituary
Alberto “Berto” Carabello Jr.
Berto Carabello, resident of Methuen, MA, passed away on Friday, October 7th, 2022 after a courageous life long illness. He was 38.
Berto was born in Lawrence, MA on July 4, 1984, fitting, for his personality lit up a room and was a spark in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him. He was a 2002 graduate of Methuen High School, where he not only received his diploma but was the proud co- creator of the 2002 Methuen High Video year book. Berto was the epitome of a class clown both inside and outside of the classroom. His sense of humor was quick, he loved a good prank, and was truly the life of any party where he could display his John Travolta-esque dance moves, including his “Bertoween” extravaganzas. In addition to humor, Berto will also be known for his love of Boston sports, be it the Celtics, the Red Sox or his Patriots with Tom Brady at the helm. He was a former ten-year employee of Market Basket where he worked in Produce.
Berto had many names: son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, but his favorite above all was “Dad.” His greatest achievements are his three children, whom he always lovingly referred to as his best friends: Olivia, Mia, and Domenic. Whether it was having epic family dance party challenges; “Single Ladies” by Beyonce and “Anyway You Want It” by Journey (just two of his favorites), or a car ride sing along to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”, Berto always found joy with his children. Berto loved music especially The Dave Matthews Band and didn’t shy away from introducing his three best friends to all different genres of music. He loved baking red velvet cupcakes with homemade cream cheese frosting with them, helping them craft a poem or rehearsing a play for school and was happy to be “Georgie” for a “Pennywise” themed birthday party. Being a Dad was the single most important aspect of Berto’s life. He proudly displayed their artwork on his walls with each child having their own section. He fostered their creativity and inquisitiveness and was proud of them beyond measure. He never missed an opportunity for a hug, snuggle, kiss, or saying “I love you.”
Though Berto lived with a serious illness he did not want to be defined by it. In fact, he wanted to be remembered as a source of positive energy. He encouraged others to do good, to keep fighting and offered his own story as motivation. His bravery will be remembered and admired. He leaned on his faith and often stated “God is good.” He relied on the support of his family and friends and truly appreciated everyone in his life.
Berto is survived by his loving family, including his devoted mother, Lisa Burton and her husband, Glenn of Salem, NH., his aunt Gia Marcello, and her husband Don Nadreau of Windham NH., his maternal grandfather, Lou Marcello and his wife, Jacqueline, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., his father Alberto Carabello Sr. and his wife, Melody of North Carolina, his sister, Mariah Carabello, and his fraternal grandmother, Irma Morales of Londonderry, N.H. as well numerous extended family and friends.
More importantly, he is survived by his three best friends: Olivia Carabello, Mia Carabello, and Domenic Carabello. Berto was lucky to have a core of close friends that he considered family, who stood by him, loved him very much, and whose support never wavered.
To honor Berto, if you feel so inclined, please perform a random act of kindness, pay it forward, or be the first person on the dance floor.
In closing are lyrics Berto and his kids would sing nightly before bed which he wanted them to keep with them forever:
“The World is such a wonderful place to wander through when you’ve got someone you love to wander along with you. With the sky so full of stars and the rivers so full of song every heart should be so thankful. Thankful for this friendly, friendly world”
Services will be private in accordance with Berto’s wishes. There will be a celebration of his life in the Spring of 2023.
