Albert "John" Fiola's Obituary
Albert “John” Fiola, 87, of Methuen, MA, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA.
Born in Lawrence, MA he was the son of the late Albert J. and Theresa Fiola (Fitzgerald). He was educated at Lawrence High School. He then left high school at age seventeen and immediately entered the U.S. Navy in 1954. John served honorably for eight years as a signalman on destroyers, and was honorary submariner during both the Korean and Vietnam era. Upon discharge he became a member of the American Legion Post 122, and was very active with all the veterans in Methuen as well as with Veterans Director Ed “Hoppy” Curran, and present director Paul Jensen, the veterans Wall of Honor at St. Monica’s School, and the Nevins Nursing Home, visiting all the vets there and sharing stories about our times in the service.
He worked as an electrician for Local 522 in Lawrence and local 103 in Boston for over thirty-five years until his retirement in 1997. John’s hobbies were metal detecting, flying drones, and archery, where he became state champion in 1982 and second place in the nationals in the same year.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Margaret “Peggy” Fiola, who he loved and was tremendously devoted to her. Now he joins her once again, to be with her forever in heaven. He even wrote a book of love poems to her called “One Man’s Undying Love” and had it published. Also predeceased by his sister, Theresa Fiola (Lambert), and baby sister, Margaret Fiola.
John is survived by many loving friends and “family”; Mike Carson, Fred Sanguedolce, Frank Haggar and family, and the Driscoll family.
Friends and relatives are warmly invited to calling hours from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, on Friday May 30, 2025, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. A Funeral Service for John will start at 11:00 AM on Friday followed by burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery with U.S. Navy Honors.
