William Patrick McGurn's Obituary
William Patrick McGurn, 93 of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2018 at the High Pointe House in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of Maryanne (Carney) McGurn, to whom he was married for 71 years.
Born in Methuen on February 6, 1925, he the son of John and Jessie (Milton) McGurn. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, class of 1943. He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Navy. He worked as a foreman with General Tire until his retirement and then Yield House Furniture for many years.
William was a communicant at St. Monica’s Church, where he married his bride in August of 1947. He was also involved in the construction of the new St. Monica’s Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Haverhill Country Club, the Hamlet Health Club, and the Lawrence YMCA. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, skiing, golfing, and spending time at his house at Seabrook Beach.
William will be deeply missed by his wife, Maryann; his son, Scott McGurn and his wife, Katheryne of Methuen; his daughter, Anne Drouin and her husband, Michael of Haverhill; his grandson, Patrick Drouin; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, John, James, Edward, and Robert McGurn and his sister, Helen Brain.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate William’s life by gathering for his calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
