Paul J. Gauthier's Obituary
Paul J. Gauthier, 77, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Merrimack Health Hospital in Methuen, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Susan J. (Baillargeon) Gauthier, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in Lawrence on December 31, 1948, Paul was the son of the late Arthur and Lena (Arsenault) Gauthier. He was the second youngest amongst his 8 siblings. A skilled handyman for more than thirty-five years, Paul possessed a remarkable engineering mind and an exceptional ability to diagnose and repair nearly anything. From household appliances and lawn equipment to electrical systems and automotive maintenance, his talent for problem-solving and emphasis on preventative maintenance earned the admiration of all who knew him.
Paul found great joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing darts and horseshoes, and he cherished time spent boating on the Merrimack River, near the home he loved along its banks.
Paul will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan; and is survived by his five children, Paul, Jr., Tish and her husband Tim, Julie and her husband Gabriel, Dawn, and Shannon and her husband Jason, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
At Paul’s request, there will be no calling hours. Funeral services will remain private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to the American Cancer Society. Donations can be made online at www.cancer.org.
