Robert A. (Bob) Demers

Robert A. (Bob) Demers, 70, longtime resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2019, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 1, 1949, in Gardiner, ME, to the late Thomas W. and Mary E. (MacEachern) Demers, he graduated from East Bridgewater High School with the Class of 1967. Bob attended Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth) for his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and Stanford University for his Masters. Bob was the proud patriarch of his family who was beloved by his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an avid boater who enjoying sharing his passion for the water with his family and friends. Bob was a selfless and generous man who loved to explore the intricacies of electronics, photography and genealogy, even tracing his family roots back to the Mayflower. He worked as a software development engineer for Bell Laboratories for 29 years and more recently at Philips Medical Systems until his retirement. Bob touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished and missed by all. Bob is survived by his dear wife, Carol A. (Bourque) Demers, with whom he celebrated 30 years of marriage. He was the proud father to his three children: his favorite son, Robert F. Demers of Methuen, and his two favorite daughters, Elizabeth M. Butterworth and her husband Jordan of East Baldwin, ME, and Teresa A. Demers and her husband Adam M. Sniegocki of Andover. Bob was the cherished grandfather to his four grandchildren: Josef, Hailee, Hannah and Hazel. He is also survived by his siblings: his sister Ann Hurd and her husband Steve of Winthrop, his brother Lawrence J. Demers and his wife Anne Basanese of Billerica, and his brother Patrick L. Demers of Burlington, MA. Bob is also survived by sister-in-law Maureen Demers of Arrowsic, ME, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas W. Demers, Jr. Visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 2-6 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. To honor Bob’s wishes, interment will be privately held.
