Marie A. Desjardins (nee Roy)

Marie A. Desjardins (Roy), 91, of Methuen, passed away on October 20, 2017 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen surrounded by her devoted family. Marie was born July 8, 1926 to her hardworking parents, Joseph and Marie (Savaria) Roy in Lawrence, MA. Raised in Lawrence and educated in Methuen, she graduated with 11 young women from St. Theresa High School, Class of 1944. After graduating from high school, Marie married her sweetheart Wilfred at St. Theresa Church in 1948. She and her husband resided in Methuen where they raised their six children. A lifelong Catholic, Marie was an avid reader and an enthusiastic collector of music boxes and Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse plush figures. She enjoyed her cats, embroidery, emailing family and friends and discussing politics at both the local and national level. She prided herself on her independent spirit, but was truly devoted to her family. She also provided daycare for several area families while raising her own children. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilfred Desjardins with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage until his passing in 2006. She is survived by her six beloved children; her daughter, Theresa LaFreniere and her husband Ronald of Derry, NH, her daughter, Lorraine Jackson and her husband Donald of Methuen, MA, her son, Richard Desjardins and his wife Linda of Poinciana, FL, her son, Roger Desjardins and his wife Betty of Andover, MA, her son Robert Desjardins and his wife Debra of Altamonte Springs, FL, and her son Ronald Desjardins and his wife Laura of Derry, NH. She was the cherished “Memere” to her nine grandchildren and one great-grandson and cherished aunt to her nephew, Roland Roy of Chelmsford, MA whom she considered her 7th child. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Theresa Boie and her husband Dick of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Stella Theberge and her husband Emile and her brother Wilfred Roy and his wife Rita. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine’s Parish, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA on November 2, 2017 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 130 N. Lowell Street, Methuen, MA.
