Donald G. Schelling

Donald G. Schelling, age 88 of Lapeer, MI and formerly of Methuen passed away on October 22, 2017. Mr. Schelling was born in Methuen on October 19, 1929 to the late Maurice and Mary Louise Schelling. He married the love of his life, Evelyn, in 1949, in St Anne’s Church, Lawrence. Donald was a former communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel-St. Theresa’s Parish of Methuen where he also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He joined the National Guard in service to his country. He was a very skilled baker, working for Morin’s Bakery of Lawrence for many years. After retiring from Morin’s, Donald went on to become a security guard for 19 years at Raytheon, where he was entrusted to help guard the Patriot Missile Program. Donald enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, wintering in Florida, being with friends and family and most of all, cooking. He could miraculously make a gourmet meal out of a few left-overs. His wife Evelyn, and children meant everything to him. Donald leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Evelyn (Caron) Schelling, his children; Karen Fitzgerald and her husband Barry of Newburyport, Patricia Dube and her husband Donald of Lapeer, MI, Mary Montbleau and her husband Robert of Melbourne, FL, and Michael Schelling of Pelham, NH. Donald was the loving grandfather of 8; David, Matthew, James, Michael, Katy, Kristina, Amanda, and Laura, and the great grandfather of 6 in Michigan, whom he was just beginning to know. Donald also leaves a sister, Marcelle Rochon of Florida, a sister-in-law Margarite "Peg" SWchelling of NH, and many nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Edmond and Rolland Schelling. Friends and guests are invited to call on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel-St. Theresa’s Parish of Methuen. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen.
